Robinson School

Robinson School is the premier English-language college-preparatory school in Puerto Rico for students between the ages of 12 months old to 12th grade. Highly qualified teachers and small classes ensure that students receive the individualized attention that optimizes learning. The campus – an oasis located just one block from the ocean in the heart of Puerto Rico’s vibrant Condado area in San Juan – provides a dynamic learning environment where tradition meets innovation. Smart classrooms, labs, and studios enrich learning by design. By integrating 21st-century teaching techniques with the latest technology, students gain the edge they need to succeed.

Leading the future since 1902, Robinson School has cultivated a legacy as the first school of its kind in Puerto Rico, a tradition that endures 115 years later. Today, Robinson is San Juan’s only International Baccalaureate World School, accredited for its Primary Years Program (grades 1-6), Middle Years Program (grades 7-10), and soon, its Diploma Program (grades 11-12). The International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and instruction educates the “whole child” – intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Through the major traditions of learning – sciences, mathematics, languages, humanities and the arts – students are empowered to apply what they learn and discover creative solutions to real-life situations that impact both their local and global communities.

At Robinson School, students become the critical, creative, and compassionate thinkers (and do-ers) that universities and rising industries seek; and they start early. Beginning in Preschool, Robinson emphasizes STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design, and Mathematics), a top priority for colleges, universities, as well as many national education systems and industry experts around the world. US National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) research data indicates that, between 2008 and 2018, careers in computing and related fields will increase by 45%.

STEAM is an interdisciplinary framework the drives innovation by teaching students how subject areas relate to each other in real-life contexts and why they are relevant. Robinson combines the IB curriculum and STEAM education to provide a framework that teaches students to make creative connections between subjects. Student-centered, project-based, interdisciplinary learning paradigms enrich individual and collaborative student learning. Learning becomes more fun, engaging, and effective; much more so than by imposing traditional educational models. IB and STEAM appeal to all types of learners and involve students in areas that inspire them. Robinson students understand the relevance of their academic work and feel personally invested in their education. Students, parents, and the entire Robinson community participate in a diverse network of international schools, businesses and communities that support and cultivate the resilience, global responsibility, and awareness in today’s students, the citizen-leaders of tomorrow.

Robinson’s core curriculum distinguishes a Robinson education from the rest. English is the official language of instruction; Spanish is required for all K-12 students. Elementary students can begin studying French after school in the Beyond the Bell program. In Middle and Upper School, English, Spanish, and French are required. Only Spanish and English are required by most schools in Puerto Rico. Additional languages are electives. Robinson raises the bar with three required core languages. Strong core programs in Visual and Performing Arts further distinguishes Robinson by fostering creativity, an essential tool for advanced critical thinking and analysis. An official Microsoft Showcase School – only 1 of 9 in Puerto Rico – Robinson uses technology to develop 21st-century skills and complete a 21st-century education. At Robinson, education has a heart. Our Spiritual Life Program creates caring and compassionate students by engaging them in community service and service leadership opportunities. Elementary School students often volunteer on their own. To graduate, Middle and Upper School students participate in approved community service. Robinson continues leading the future of education with interactive classrooms that integrate vanguard technology, renovated state-of-the-art science labs, and a school garden with aquaponics and composting systems. Championship teams and clubs in Robotics, Math, Science, Oratory (Spanish), Forensics (English) and Athletics, along with student travel opportunities, an expanding Visual and Performing Arts Program, and many opportunities to lead community service initiatives make sure that student lead multidimensional lives, also known as “The Robinson Way.”

Robinson School offers the most comprehensive education in English on the island. Students learn in a diverse school community, which prepares them to communicate effectively as global leaders. The Toddler Academic Program offers the only academic program that prepares students from 12 months to 3 years old for an IB Robinson education by promoting independence and exploration throughout all developmental stages. The Preschool Academic Program (ages 3-5) forms part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP). Highly qualified faculty shape young inquisitive minds into independent, creative thinkers. The Elementary School Program (grades 1-6) uses the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) to help students embody the IB learner profile, a broad range of human character traits and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They learn to balance critical-thinking skills with creativity and compassion though daily, hands-on experiments. The Middle School Program, an accredited International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP), begins to focus on college preparation by challenging students with a curriculum designed to help them recognize their full potential. The Upper School Program advances the rigorous college-preparatory program with AP courses, campus visits from colleges and universities, and career internships. The Pathways Program, designed for students with mild language-based learning differences, offers a dynamic and secure learning environment that recognizes each child’s unique learning process. Specially trained faculty develop curricular accommodations and appropriate academic instruction according to students’ needs. Students receive additional support from on-site speech, language, reading, and occupational therapists, as well as psychologists. The Boarding School Program is an international co-ed residential program in English for Middle and Upper School with exciting extra-curricular and weekend activities.

At Robinson School, students learn to become global thinkers through reflection, action, and service. Mindfulness and compassion grow organically as part of Robinson's international education. Robinson values - curiosity, caring, critical-thinking, creativity, and compassion – along with applied interdisciplinary academics set Robinson students apart from the crowd. A Robinson education is an education for life. “The Robinson Difference” makes all the difference!
